6 signs that you are a Highly Sensitive Person

My main intention around my articles related to trauma is to raise awareness and cultivate compassion regarding the condition and behavior of people who have been misunderstood, judged, ignored and pushed away because of being different or because they have a different experience through life. These people are the trauma-survivors, the empaths, the sensitive souls and the highly sensitive.

These are 6 main ways that a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) function in this world:

1. HSP overthink social interactions: Overanalysing details of conversations and people's facial expressions has a lot to do with one’s high sensitivity. They notice expressions and cues that others usually miss.

2. HSP can feel deeply hurt with Judgement & Conflict: A HSP are very tender people and they require a different approach from other people, otherwise everyday communication can highly trigger them. Raising your voice, criticize them or getting upset with thwm can cause them to shut down.

3. HSP cannot function under pressure: They can perform very well their task if they are given time and space but if not they can easily experience distress and will cause them to perform poorly. For them less is more.

4. HSP's boubdaries are easily violated: And this happens due to their higher levels of empathy. They are extremely emotionally aware and therefore can be deeply affected by otger people's emotions. Therefore they have a deeper need to please them.

5. HSP need more time alone: Research shows that HSP need minimum 2 hours of downtime a day in order to process their thoughts and feelings. They also need more sleep than other people in order to function well during the day.

6. HSP have heightened awareness and perception: This makes them feel overwhelmed more often in everyday life by too much sensory input or demand from their environment. They also feel emotions deeply and and anything else they take in through their 5 senses.

Understanding yourself as a HSP or someone in your close environment is essential in order to understand them better. Instead of misunderstanding their existence you can choose to discover their sensitivity as a superpower alongside their unique gifts.

Thank you for reading, and remember that everything you seek is already within you.

Heart to Heart,

Christina
